Clarification: In Don’t Black Lives Matter? Confronting the Problem of Disproportionate Black Victimization, 53 Fordham Urban Law Journal 449 (2025) (with Paul H. Robinson), the text at footnote 217 states “The second form of equating Blackness with criminality, and one often
held by those on the political right, sees disproportionate Black victimization as resulting from Black culture’s supposed glorification of criminality.” Footnote 217 cites a source which critiques criminologist Barry Latzer’s views on crime and culture, but footnote 217 should not be construed as endorsing the claim that Professor Latzer holds the view of “Black culture’s supposed glorification of criminality” we criticize in our article. Professor Latzer has made clear he does not believe there is any overall Black culture of violence (see Barry Latzer, Subcultures of Violence and African American Crime Rates, 54 J. Crim. Just. 41 (2018)).
